Virke (the Federation of Norwegian Enterprise), represents over 24,000 businesses in Norway. One of their missions is to provide valuable information about the commerce and service sectors to the public, and their members. Virke aims to be forward-thinking and continually improve its services.
Challenge:
How can Virke use data in a smarter way to create new services that provides members with valuable insights into thei industries and the broader economy?
Process:
As a UX designer, I worked closely with developers and the client in a cross-functional team. At the start of the project, the specific solution was not yet defined. We began by interviewing leaders from member companies to gain insight into the types of data they use for budgeting and strategy, how often they need this data, and how they prefer to receive it. We also explored what kinds of insights and tools they lacked but would like to have.
Based on the insights from these interviews, we developed several concepts and began building a website called Insight.virke.no. We followed a sprint-based workflow, where we started development early, tested frequently, and made adjustments along the way.
During the design phase, I facilitated creative workshops with Virke and some of its members to brainstorm ideas for what the website could include. It was important to involve the client throughout the process to ensure shared ownership and visibility of the project.
As the only designer on the team, I ensured that the website was user-friendly and aligned with Virke’s visual identity. It was crucial to use the right infographics to present insights in a clear and effective way.
As we launched the service, we used “fake door” testing, which involves releasing functionality that hasn’t yet been developed to measure how many users click on it. This allowed us to test the demand for new features before building them.
Result:
Insight.virke.no was launched in 2021. The website provides members with relevant insights into the commerce and service industries. It has increased the value of being a Virke member and streamlined communication between Virke and its members.
